SUBJECT: Practical Doctrine

THEME: Encouragement in Trials

TITLE: Remember The Future

TEXT: 2 Thessalonians 1:10-12

INTRO: During persecution of the Thessalonian church, Paul encouraged the Christians there by reminding them about Jesus’ return and their example to others in persecution

PROP: Every Christian can see what God’s purpose is.

TRANS: By studying the three statements Paul makes, every Christian can see what God’s purpose is.

I. His Desire 2 Thessalonians 1:10

When Jesus returns for His church:

    1. To be glorified in us
    2. To be examples in us
    3. Because of the gospel being preached

APPL: Is Jesus’ desire being fulfilled in your life?

II. His Design 2 Thessalonians 1:11

Paul’s prayers were always for God’s will in our lives:

    1. That God would count us worthy of calling
    2. He is good when you are suffering persecution
    3. Witnessing with power - enduring persecution

ILLUS: Genuine persecution always brings about revival and the spreading of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

APPL: Pray for God’s design in your life, not for peace, safety and comfort.

III. His Delight 2 Thessalonians 1:12

The Lord wishes to delight in us through:

    1. Jesus’ Name glorified in us
    2. We should be glorified in Christ Jesus
    3. By His grace (not because we deserve it)

APPL: Can the Lord delight in your life and service to Him?

CONCLUSION: Therefore, every Christian can see what God’s purpose is:
