Testimony of Pastor Jim Schibetta:

Personal:

Pastor Jim Schibetta was born in Fredonia, NY on September 27, 1957.  Raised as a Roman Catholic, he attended Parochial school and served as an alter boy.  After graduating from High School, he went to a 2 year college in NY, graduating with a degree in Electronics.  After graduating, he entered the US Navy as a Nuclear Reactor Operator aboard the USS Enterprise.  After being honorably discharged, he worked in a Nuclear power plant in Ohio.  It was there in June of 1986 that he was saved by receiving the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior, rejecting all systems of religious works for the precious saving grace of God!  About this same time, he met the woman that he would later marry, Linda Adkins (Lynn).  After Jim was saved, Lynn rededicated her life to Christ!  In December of 1986, Lynn and Jim were married, about a year after they had begun dating.  Their son Joseph was born in January of 1989, and their daughter Debra was born in March of 1990.

In September of 1990, they moved to South Carolina so Brother Jim could work as an instrumentation engineer at the Savannah River Plant.  In late spring of 1991, they began attending Victory Baptist Church in North Augusta, SC.  Under the preaching of Pastor Larry Brown, God called Brother Jim to attend Bible College during a missions conference in January of 1992.

  Ministry:

During the spring of 1992, Br. Jim completed the 13 week soul-winning course taught in the church (the "Go Club").  Brother Jim has seen many souls saved and down the aisle for baptism.  That fall, he began classes at Victory Baptist College, a ministry of Victory Baptist Church in North Augusta.  Both of the Schibetta children were saved through the Children’s Church ministry at Victory.  In May of 1996, Brother Jim graduated with a bachelors degree in Pastoral theology from Victory.  In addition to his studies, Brother Jim worked in many of the church’s ministries during the time he attended Victory Baptist Church and College.  He worked in an outreach to the military, seeing many soldiers saved at Fort Gordon in Augusta, GA.  For years, Brother Jim preached in the Richmond County jail in Augusta, seeing prisoners give their lives to Christ.  Brother Jim found has a great love for Children’s ministries, serving as a Sunday School teacher for boys classes and working in the Children’s Church Ministry.  Brother Jim worked with the inner city children’s outreach, preaching in projects to children living in poverty and neglect.  Another area of service for Brother Jim was in the nursing home ministry, where Brother Jim was "pastor" for two years, faithfully serving every Saturday.

In September of 1996, Brother Jim came to Western Washington for a survey trip to try to get God’s peace concerning starting a new church.  In June of 1997, after consulting with many local Pastors and much prayer, the Schibettas came to Shelton Washington to start Liberty Baptist Church.  Bible studies were started in September 1997, which grew into church meetings at the homes of some of the residents by December of 1997.  In May of 1999, meetings were being held in a chapel building in Shelton and the church continued growing.  In July of 2001, after much prayer and searching for the Lord’s guidance, Pastor Jim resigned the pastorate at Liberty Baptist in Shelton.

At about the same time, the Lord was moving Pastor Don Carpenter, from Revival Baptist Church in Walla Walla to take a pastorate in Torrington, Connecticut.  Pastor Carpenter contacted Brother Schibetta concerning the church in Walla Walla, and after visiting to preach in September, Brother Jim returned to candidate at Revival Baptist Church.  The Church voted to call Brother Schibetta, and he accepted.  Since September 23rd, 2001, he has been pastoring Revival Baptist Church.

Vision:

Pastor Schibetta’s vision for Revival Baptist Church includes a healthy dose of Second Corinthians 5:17-20:

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.  And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;  To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.   Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.

This vision includes actively taking the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ to the City of Walla Walla and the surrounding area in whatever forms may be necessary to reach the lost in our community.  Any and all functions of the church will be centered around evangelizing the lost, and the fellowship of believers.  Many possible areas of ministry include a prison ministry at the penitentiary here in Walla Walla (the "Walls"), nursing home outreaches, a Bible institute, and continued growth in our Sunday School.
